Dashing Dachshunds Steal the Show at Oakland Park’s Oktoberfest Dachshund Dash
Oakland Park’s annual Oktoberfest celebration was a hit, with the 18th Dachshund Dash stealing the spotlight last Saturday. This year, Finn, a dapple Dachshund, raced his way to victory, delighting his owner, Madyson Puchajda, who was thrilled to see her pup claim the top spot. “I knew he’d do great, but I’m just in awe,” she shared proudly.
The event, held in partnership with Central Bark, a local dog daycare, brought out dachshund lovers from all over. Crowds cheered as around 50 dachshunds competed in six heats on the 30-yard track, racing toward owners who lured them with treats and toys. City officials, including Vice Mayor Tim Lonergan, joined as judges, enjoying the annual tradition with residents and visitors alike.
For Lonergan, the event is a highlight every year, and he hinted at the potential for expansion, possibly even including other breeds in the future. “Maybe someday, we’ll do the German Shepherd race!” he suggested with a laugh.
As for Finn, he not only took home first place, beating last year’s champion Oscar, but he’s also planning a return to defend his title. “This is a tradition,” said Puchajda, adding, “We’ll be back every year for the next 15 years!”
